Cuba City, Wisconsin Michael E. "Mike" Lyons, 68, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at home after a long valiant battle with cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service. Mike was born on March 3, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Laurence and Mary Ellen (Sisler) Lyons. In 1963 he graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Mike served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam Era. He married Geralynn I. "Jeri" Schroeder on April 12, 1969, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville. Mike worked at the Dubuque Pack for 31 years and was a rural postman out of the Belmont Post Office for 10 years. He was a member of the Cuba City Lions Club, serving a term as president. He was also a driver for the Cuba City Rescue Squad and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #765. Mike's hobbies included hunting, fishing and photography. He enjoyed his flower garden, especially the 120-130 varieties of hostas. His family and grandchildren were very special to him. Survivors include his wife, Jeri; his children, Mike (Helene) Lyons Jr., of Oberthal, Germany, Bridgitt (Steve) Zielke, of Kohler, Wisconsin, Brent (Sally) Lyons, of Dickeyville, Heidi (Steve) Staskal, of Livingston, and Eric (Tracy) Lyons, of Hazel Green; a former daughter-in-law, Susi Lyons Deminger, of Pohlheim, Germany; nine grandchildren, Natascha, Tracy and Kathy Lyons, Cecelia and Cooper Zielke, Justin and Madalyn Lyons, Gracie Staskal, and Jon Lyons; and a step-granddaughter, Katlynn Templeton. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents. In lieu of flowers a Michael E. "Mike" Lyons Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank Grant County Hospice especially Kim, Mary and Cheryl; the Grant County Nurses, especially Michelle; and all the nurses at Tri State Dialysis in Platteville.
