Milly was born on July 6, 1924, in Benton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Francis O. and Mary Amelda “Molly” (Byrne) Swift. She married Eugene “Butch” McCarthy on February 19, 1945 in Benton, Wisconsin. Milly pursued and received her L.P.N. degree when she was 61 years old and worked at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. She also helped her husband, Butch, at the family owned tavern, McCarthy’s Bar. Survivors include her husband, Eugene “Butch”; two daughters, Danette (Kenneth) Brink and Rita McCarthy, both of Benton; three sons, Patrick (Carolyn) McCarthy of Benton, Steven (Maureen) McCarthy, of Mt. Horeb, and Joseph (Ann O’Rourke) McCarthy, of Madison; a brother-in-law, Orin Smith, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Lucas) Garsha, Michael Brink, Connor McCarthy, Sarah (Josué) Moraes, Katey (Nicholas) Neis, Kelly McCarthy, Kathleen McCarthy, Claire McCarthy, and Christopher McCarthy; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Garsha, Sam Garsha, Chloe Garsha, and Madalyn Moraes. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Frankie (Elmer) Hudson, Helen (Leon) Shay, Jeanette (Lavern) Welter, De Etta (Percy) Carter, Mary (Gus) Williams, Myrna (Harold) McCrea, Rita Smith, Forrest (Leona) Swift, Clarion (Agnes) Swift, and Ray (Elaine) Swift.
