Orville G. “Junior” Pickel, 60, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, Wisconsin, where there will be a parish rosary at 1:40 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.

Junior was born on October 31, 1962 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Orville and Dolores (Schaefer) Pickel. He worked at Southwest Opportunities Center in Lancaster, Wisconsin, and the Hodan Center in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Junior loved sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. He also loved watching the Platteville Pioneers play football and basketball. Junior was a member of Special Olympics in Platteville and especially enjoyed basketball. He loved traveling, especially to Arizona to watch the Cubs at training camp. Junior took his role as #1 godfather seriously and was a wonderful uncle.

Junior is survived by six sisters, Linda (Tom “TJ”) Schissel, Dubuque, IA, Sandy (Tom) Hull, Phoenix, AZ, Patsy (Clint) Freiburger, Cuba City, WI, Jeannie (Roger) Arnesen, Mukwonago, WI, Janet (Scott) Faber, Edgar, WI, and Connie (Tim) Weber, Platteville, WI; one brother, John (Kelly) Pickel, Delavan, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandparents, George and Marcella Pickel and Henry and Mary Schaefer.

In lieu of flowers, an Orville G. “Junior” Pickel Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Mound View Adult Family Home in Platteville, St. Mary’s Hospital and Meriter Hospital, both in Madison, and Edenbrook in Platteville.
