Cuba City, WI -- Oswin Herman "Ossie" Tranel, 88, of rural Cuba City, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sinsinawa, with his grandson, the Rev. Bart Timmerman presiding and Ossie's son, Deacon Larry Tranel officiating. Rev. Lance Schneider, Rev. Randy Timmerman, Rev. Chad Droessler and other brother priests and deacons will be assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City with a parish rosary at 2 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home before the service. He was born on April 22, 1925, in Menominee, IL, the son of John Henry and Julia (Imbus) Tranel. He married Mary Agnes Lange on January 14, 1948 at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville, WI. Ossie was a life-long farmer with his wife and children in the Louisburg area and was also a Cargill seed salesman. Ossie was a faith-filled member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Sinsinawa. He served as a member of the Parish Council and Holy Name Society. Ossie’s devotion to faith, family, friends and farming was a great example for all of us to follow. He was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who instilled Christian values and a strong work ethic in his family. He was a great supporter of Catholic education. Ossie enjoyed playing cards and was also an avid Brewer fan. Ossie loved all his children and grandchildren and had a passion for helping them succeed in their chosen careers. He enjoyed helping his sons on their farms. He will always be remembered for his peaceful demeanor, his smile, and his sense of humor. Surviving are his children, Roseann (David) Wiederholt, Karen (Dan) Timmerman, and Larry (Tina) Tranel, all of Kieler; Rita (Donald) Fluhr, of East Dubuque; Mary Lou (Richard) Donovan, of Bernard, IA.; Judy (Owen) Adrian, of Cassville; John (Connie) Tranel, Joann (Tony) Jansen, both of Hazel Green; Thomas (Lin) Tranel, Dan (Jennifer) Tranel and daughter-in-law, Joan (Mike Bellrichard) Tranel, all of Cuba City; 54 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Irene Tranel, of Dubuque; two brothers-in-law, John (Evelyn) Lange, of Platteville and Edmund (Mary) Lange, of Dickeyville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes; a son, Steven; his brothers Louis (Mary) Tranel and Gilbert Tranel; and a sister, Mildred (Hillary) Wiederholt. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
