Patricia G. Burke

Patricia G. Hoppenjan Burke, 83, of Hazel Green, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2013 at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Services will be at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Hazel Green on Tuesday, March 5. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Patricia, the daughter of Rawlin Riley and Gladys Carter Riley, was born on March 19, 1929 south of Cuba City on her grandfather Carter’s farm. Patricia graduated from Cuba City High School in 1947. She married Harold Hoppenjan in October 1947 in Cuba City. He passed away in 1960. She later married Patrick Burke (1961) who predeceased her in 1994. Pat was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish and the Altar Society in Hazel Green for 61 years. She worked for many years at the Hazel Green Hospital and Clinic, where she fostered friendships that endured throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed bowling with her ladies’ team for over 30 years, as well as quilting, walking with her friends and playing a good game of euchre. She was proud of her years of service on the Hazel Green Village Zoning Board, and of her Irish heritage. Pat is survived by five children: Barbara Kuhl, Thomas Hoppenjan, Sally Blankenship, Susan (Steve) Seiler and Linda Huske. She is further survived by six grandchildren: Tori, Kirk, Brandt, Allison, Grant, and Riley Erin; and seven great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her husbands and her grandson, Jay Patrick Kuhl. Pat and her family want to especially thank Dr. Regan Wolbers and her office nurse, Lori, for their years of concerned care. Dr. Wolbers was a true comfort to Pat and to all of us in her final days. They also wish to thank the caring staff at The Finley Hospital, particularly her nurse, Darlene, and the others on the fifth floor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hazel Green Public Library, 1610 Fairplay St., Hazel Green, WI 53811, or to a charity of choice. Pat passed peacefully, with the laughter of her children in her ears.
