Kieler, Wisconsin
It is with great sadness we announce the passing on Friday, March 21, 2025, of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Phil J. Schwinn, 75. While we will miss his presence here, he has left behind many positive memories to carry in our hearts. Phil faced his terminal cancer diagnosis with a positive outlook, accepting it as “my journey.” His favorite message engraved on his Yeti mug was from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.”
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler, Wisconsin, where there will be a Parish Rosary Service at 1:40 p.m. Also, visitation from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to the funeral service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, Wisconsin. Burial will take place at a later date. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin, is assisting the family.
Phil was born on May 14, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Philip V. and Anne (Doherty) Schwinn. He attended elementary school at St. Columbkille and St. Anthony. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1967 and attended Loras College. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Droessler, on May 8, 1971, at Immaculate Conception, in Kieler, Wisconsin. Together they raised three children while actively engaged in the Kieler community.
Phil was co-owner of Jaeger Hardware, and later worked for Opening Specialists, both of Dubuque. Upon his retirement, Phil and Linda became Florida snowbirds, having great times with their winter Florida friends at Windsor Hill Resort. Phil’s life will be remembered by his love for his children, grandchildren and loyal service to his church, community, and Hospice of Dubuque. He was a volunteer Pee Wee coach for over 25 years, and an avid golfer, boasting four hole-in-ones during his golfing career. Phil was a member of Birchwood, organizing Monday night league, and spent over 53 years as a member and manager of the legendary “Duffers Tour”. He was also “housing dad” for the Dubuque Fighting Saintes from 1983-1999.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda (Droessler) Schwinn, Kieler, WI; his children, Philip A. Schwinn, Milwaukee, WI, Natalie (Scott) Schwinn-Weaver, La Crosse, WI, and Rob Ripley, Lancaster; his grandchildren, Maria, Rosa and Pearl (who Grandpa affectionately called Mearl); two sisters, Helen (Mike) Balfe, Dubuque, IA, and Judy Jaquette, Cedar Rapids, IA; his in-laws, Sam (Nancy) Droessler and Tom (Judy) Droessler, both of Kieler, WI, Ted (special friend, Linda Wessels) Droessler, Potosi, WI, Albie (Patty) Droessler, Stoughton, WI, and Angel (Rick) Busch, Gays Mills, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip V. and Anne Schwinn; his stepmom, Bessie Bowen Schwinn; his brother-in-law, Mick Jaquette; and special golf partners, Jim “The Big Duffer,” Bez, and Tucker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to be directed to Hospice of Dubuque and HG-IC Catholic School.
The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, That Man is You, First Responders, Dickeyville Rescue Squad, Dr. Mark Hermann, Tony Heiar, and the staffs of Integrated Cancer Center and UW Carbone Cancer Center; as well as relatives, friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness and support during this difficult time.
