Phillip R. Symons

Phillip R. Symons, 74, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Hazel Green with Rev. Cy Weisensel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:15 �" 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Phil was born on March 14, 1935, in New Diggings, Wisconsin, the son of George and Lucy (Carter) Symons. He married Shirley Riek on June 27, 1959, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Hazel Green. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Phil served in the army from 1957-1959. He was an active member of the Hazel Green Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He received a heart transplant on Christmas Day 1996. Phil was very active in restoring his 1940 Ford and enjoyed visiting at his son’s auto repair shop. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Hazel Green; a daughter, Julie Ann Symons, of Crystal Lake, IL; a son, Stephen John (Diana) Symons, of Hazel Green; a sister, Karen Wasson, of Galena, IL; eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Andrea, Jenna, Emma, Alisha, Phillip, Katie and Travis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laurie Lynn Runde; and his siblings, Gene Carter, Clarise Symons, Robert Symons, and Dora Nolte.
