Richard A. “Dick” Check, 81, of Kieler, Wisconsin, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City, Wisconsin. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the parish center before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Richard was born on March 17, 1929, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Anthony and Cecelia (Kozelka) Check. He married Beverly E. Havens on March 1, 1949; they were married for 55 years before she preceded him in death on July 1, 2004. Richard was an ice cream route driver for Meadow Gold for over 35 years. After retiring he worked at the IOCO gas station in Dickeyville along with helping his wife Beverly run a Day Care Center. Richard was involved in the Boy Scouts for many years and was part of his four sons achieving the Eagle Scout award. He was an active member in the All Star Dancers and the Tri State Boot Scooters. Richard enjoyed playing dominos, taking his family on many camping trips through the years, going on bus trips and the long distance trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Steve Leis) McAlear, of Bangor, Wisconsin, and Cheryl (Greg) Bellmann, of Cuba City; four sons, Michael (Terry) Check, of Kieler, Randy (Joan) Check, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Scott Check, of Mosinee, Wisconsin, and Todd (Margaret Strobel) Check, of Rio, Wisconsin; his sister, Patricia (Gene) Walz, of Glen Haven, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren, Kristi Wackershauser, Kari (finance Dave Kennedy) Bellmann, Kurt Bellmann, Jason (Heather) McAlear, Stacy (Jason) Steinke, Aaron, Jeremy and Joshua Check, Nathan, Jenna and Lindsay Check, Megan Strobel and Jared Leis; three great-grandchildren, John and Katie Wackershauser, Alex McAlear and a future great-granddaughter, the daughter of Stacy (Jason) Steinke. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Julie Check.
