Richard L. Reyna

November 2, 1945 — May 18, 2022

Shullsburg, Wisconsin Richard L. Reyna, 76, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Southwest Health Center, Platteville, Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Darlington, Wisconsin, with Pastor Nick McElrath officiating. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City, Wisconsin is assisting the family. Richard was born on November 2, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Leo and Betty (McKnight) Reyna. He married Mary Jo Byrnes on September 5, 1983, in Zephyr Cove, Nevada. Rich was proud to have served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas. After leaving the military, he spent his life in the furniture world, beginning his career at Broyhill in South Carolina. He taught his wife how to be wary of salesmen and how to spot a piece of furniture that is actually well made; two skills she uses to this day. Everyone who knew him knew that he was very proud of being part Cherokee. He was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Rich eventually found himself living in Wisconsin so his wife could be closer to her family. He was not always happy about this because he felt the winters here never end. No matter how he tried, Rich never completely acclimated to life as a Cheesehead. Didn’t really care for beer, never ate cheese on his hamburger and absolutely refused to eat bratwurst. His wife could understand the beer and cheese issues but how could anyone not like bratwurst! He had a beautiful leather Packers jacket that he would wear from time to time, but the truth is he never really cared whether the Packers won or not. Golf was his thing. While living in Augusta, Georgia, Rich had the opportunity to go and see the Masters Tournament several times. He even met Mickey Gilley and Charlie Pride once. His wife wished she had gone that day. As his health began to fail, Rich always felt bad that he was not able to be of more help to his wife. His pride and joy was his riding lawn mower and he could be found happily driving trash to the dump yard and attempting to cut the grass. He loved taking the cars to be washed and shining them up. His wife was sure he was going to rub the paint off of them. Treasure the time you have with your loved ones. Rich was hard of hearing and his wife is too. She now gets to spend the rest of her life wishing he was still here so she could repeat everything at least two or three times. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Reyna, Shullsburg; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Randy) Maddux, Derby, KS; adopted son, Anthony “Tony” Reyna, Wichita, KS; stepson, Lee (Danielle) Klein, Collegeville, PA; ex-wife, Sharon Fooshee, Wichita, KS; a brother, Tommy; a sister, Connie; five grandchildren, Cole and Emily Maddux, and Maggie, Evelyn and Henry Klein; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and many aunts and uncles. Special thanks to Dr. Jeff White, Medical Associates, Platteville; Dr. John Whalen, Grand River Medical Group, Dubuque; Mercy Hospital, Dubuque; Southwest Health Center, Platteville; and Epione Pavilion Nursing Home, Cuba City. Rich was exposed to nothing but kindness and compassion from these people. They all made him feel special and he loved that. An extra, extra special thank you to the First Baptist Church in Darlington who will never completely know just how much they mattered in this man’s life.
