A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at St. Rose Catholic Church, in Cuba City, WI, with Father David Flanagan officiating. Dick was born on March 8, 1946, in Cuba City. Dick’s life was marked by his fierce loyalty to his family and unwavering desire to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was one of ten children born to Cletus and Sally Gile. During his childhood years, “Butch,” as he was lovingly nicknamed by his family, was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. You could often see Butch cruising around Cuba City in his hand-painted green 1949 Chevy Parrot. On snowy evenings, he may have been the one doing donuts in front of the hospital in Cuba City.

On November 27, 1965, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Diane Eggers and they went on to have four beautiful children. He began his career as an assistant cheesemaker with his father. Later he purchased a Mobile oil franchise and successfully ran that for several years. When Dick was 32 years old, he began a 38-year career with Truck Country. He started in sales and worked his way up to General Manager before he retired in November 2015. Beyond his career achievements, Dick was an active member of the Cuba City Lions Club for many years. Dick also took immense pride in his yard. He worked tirelessly every spring and summer to have the most beautiful yard, the greenest grass, and the most colorful flowers in the entire neighborhood. A trait he passed on to his four children.

Dick is lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; and four children, Michelle Gile, of Brooklyn, NY, Paula Gile of Cottage Grove, WI, Troy (Jodi) Gile of Lodi, WI, and Randy Gile of Highland, MI. His legacy will live on in his four grandchildren, Ryan (Kacy) Gile, Christian Reeser, Holly (Miranda) Harding, and Alexander Reeser, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Theo Gile. He was a beloved brother and friend to Sharon (Ron) McGee, Mary (Roger) Slaats, Susan Porter, Sally Jo Kinch, Phyllis (Clem) Wiegman, Tom (Gloriann) Gile, Tim (Diane) Gile, and Ken (Nora) Gile; and his brother-in-law, Jim Glynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Sally; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dwight and Leona Eggers; his sister, Maureen Glynn; and his five brothers-in-law, Glen Kinch, Bill Porter, Dwight Jr., Randy, and Kim Eggers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
