Robert J. Herbst

Benton, Wisconsin Robert J. "Bob" Herbst, 68, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Friday, November 9, 2018, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, Iowa. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Monday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton. Bob was born on November 19, 1949, in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the son of Faedelus H. and Elva M. (Brandt) Herbst. He married Christine K. Valentis on January 20, 1973, at St. Matthew's Church in Shullsburg. Bob graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1967 and worked as a salesman for Motion Industries. Bob played fast pitch softball for Christensen's and slow pitch softball for the Old Timers. He was a supporter of Benton Athletics and an avid Packers, Badgers and Dodgers fan. Bob was a member of Cole Acres Country Club, a past member of the Benton Town Council and Benton Fire Department, and a past president of the Benton Booster Club. Survivors include his wife, Chris, of Benton; a daughter, Hillary (Brian) Day, of Fennimore, WI; two sons, Craig (Shey) Herbst, of Asbury, IA, and Scott (Laura) Herbst, of Cedar Rapids, IA; his mother, Elva Hermanson, Monroe, WI; his grandchildren, William, Libby, Anderson, Grace, Luke, and Graham; two sisters, Kristine (Joe) Wubben, of Menominee, IL, and LeAnn Olson, of Winona, MN; and five brothers, Steve Herbst, of Monroe, WI, Ed (Dawn) Herbst, of Hazel Green, WI, Jim (Diane) Herbst, of Sun Prairie, WI, William (Sherrie) Herbst, of Monroe, WI, and David Herbst, of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his father, Freddy Herbst; a brother, Brian Herbst; his nephews, Darryl Busch and Phillip Herbst; a niece, Megan Herbst; a sister-in-law, Beth Herbst; and his stepfather, Harold Hermanson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Benton Community Fund.
