Rose Marie Walton, 69, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Benton, Wisconsin, with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Benton (404 Railroad Ave.) where the parish wake service will be held at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rose was born on November 4, 1940 in Caven Rock, Illinois, the daughter of Kathleen Piper. She married Delmer Walton on September 26, 1964 at St. Patrick’s Church in Benton. Rose graduated from Benton High School in 1958 and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Cuba City Hospital until 1967 when she gave up her nursing career to raise her family. After her boys were raised, Rose worked at the local grocery store and passed along her contagious smile and laughter as a bartender at G-G’s Tap in Benton. Rose found great happiness through living a simple life that revolved around her family. Through the years, she took great pride in her boys sporting events and school activities, always showing her support in all types of weather. She particularly enjoyed annual camping trips with her kids and grandkids and every holiday where she was surrounded by those she loved. To her, daughters-in-law were simply “her daughters”. In her later years, she found great companionship in her little dog Maxie. She often enjoyed riding through the countryside to see the beautiful spring flowers, the leaves changing colors in the fall, and the beauty of a fresh snowfall on the trees and greenery. Rose was an avid Vikings fan where she could be found nearly every Sunday rooting for her favorite team, right beside her loving husband She was a great wife to Delmer, allowing him to “be a boy” with his boys, and supported him unconditionally throughout his life. Rose recognized the importance of a strong family and made sure her boys carried those values forward in their own lives. She defined family. Besides her husband Delmer, survivors include four sons, Terry (Rosalee) Walton, of Benton, Wisconsin, Timothy (Lynne) Walton, of Verona, Wisconsin, Tony (Joy) Walton, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Todd (Cheryl) Walton, of Lancaster, Wisconsin; two sisters, Jeanette Anderson, of Rockford, Illinois, and Mary Mess, of Dubuque, Iowa; three brothers, John (Patty) Piper, of Dubuque, Iowa, Charles Ray (Karen) Piper, of Horicon, Wisconsin, and Neal Edward (Ann) Jensen, of Fullerton, California; sixteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Florence/Flossie (Mom) Piper; her birth-mother, Kathleen “Sis” Piper; four sisters, Virginia, Alberta, Freda, and Paula; and six brothers, Cletus “Riley”, Claude, Norval “Buster”, James “Jug”, Joe, and Bill. In lieu of flowers, the Walton family would appreciate monetary contributions, which will be donated on Rose’s behalf to Hospice of Dubuque.
