Rosemary V. (Welter) Vaassen, 92, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, died Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Stonehill Health Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024 at Holy Ghost Church, Dickeyville, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9-11:15 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.


Rosemary was born on June 2, 1932, in Grant County, Wisconsin to Oscar and Cecilia (Brink) Welter. She married Norbert L. Vaassen on April 28, 1953, in Kieler, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2019.


Rosemary was a farmer’s wife and worked at Rite Hite in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a member of Holy Ghost Church and actively involved in many church activities including the annual parish picnic for many years, funeral dinners, the parish garage sale and Christian Mothers. Rosemary enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cards and going on trips with Norbert and friends. Time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was special to her.


Survivors include her two daughters, Linda (Ron) Martin, Cuba City, and Shirley (Steve) Menning, Rewey; two sons, David (Karen Hertrampf) Vaassen, Hazel Green, and Keith (Roxie) Vaassen, Dickeyville; a sister, Jeanette Casel, Missouri; three grandchildren, Chad, Jodi and Kelli; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Abby.


She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Jill Vaassen; brother, Norbert (Margaret) Welter; and brother-in-law, Paul Casel.


The family would like to thank all the caregivers and nurses at Stonehill Assisi Village, Stonehill Health Center and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Andy, for all the care and compassion they showed to Rosemary and her family.
