Ruth E. Hilvers

Benton, Wisconsin Ruth E. Hilvers, 91, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Sunday, June 9th, 2019 at Silverado North Shore Memory Care Community in Milwaukee, WI. Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019, at Casey Funeral Home in Cuba City, Wisconsin, with Howard Silberman officiating. Friends may visit Ruth’s family from 2:00-3:30 p.m. before the service. A private burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery following the service. Ruth was born on January 15, 1928, in Grant County, the daughter of Dewey & Ina (Leggett) Heil. She married Douglas Hilvers on September 18, 1948, in Cuba City. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2013. Ruth graduated from Cuba City High School in Cuba City, Wisconsin. She then attended Platteville University, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She worked many years as a teacher at Shullsburg Elementary School and created and launched the first Remedial Reading program. Other than her family and circle of beloved friends, Ruth had a great interest in genealogy, Habitat for Humanity, travel and gardening. Surviving are her daughter Cheryl (Howard) Silberman, of Milwaukee; two sisters, Esther Egan, of Platteville and Shirley Puls, of Cuba City; a daughter-in-law, Chris Hilvers, of Cuba City; four grandchildren, Tim (Michele) and Ryan (Amy) Hilvers, Rachel (Adam) Kruse and Adam (Erica) Silberman; and eight great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jonathan, Kailey, Cole, Paige, Grace, Sky, and Roan. Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bruce, on February 8th, 2010; and two sisters, Doris Kirk and Norma Kunkel. In lieu of flowers a Ruth E. Hilvers Memorial Fund has been established and donations will be given to an educational scholarship fund and Habitat for Humanity.
