Shirley M. Averkamp, 91, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Kieler, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler where the parish wake service will be at 5:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10:15 a.m. Monday at the parish center before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Shirley was born on September 15, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Marie (Vosberg) Meyer. She married Aloysius Averkamp on August 30, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1976. Shirley loved children and enjoyed reading to them and cooking for them at Immaculate Conception School. She loved to cook and will be remembered for her cooking. Shirley enjoyed Jeopardy, Bingo and loved hats. She enjoyed watching her children's and grandchildren's sports and was a fan of the Badgers, Packers, Wahlert Golden Eagles and Cuba City Cubans. Survivors include her children, Thomas (Karen) Averkamp, of Cuba City, WI, Terrance (Kim) Averkamp, of Iowa City, IA, Mary (Dan) Rygel, of Burlington, NC, Lawrence (Sally) Averkamp, of Park View, IA, Paul (Diane) Averkamp, of Dubuque, IA, Joseph (Suzanne) Averkamp, of Alexandria, VA, James (Jan) Averkamp, of Lakewood, WA, Lloyd (Chris) Averkamp, of Ironwood, MI, Lynn (Phil) Christensen, of Lacey, WA, Diane (Norm) Tougas, of Frisco, TX, and Karen Stewart, of Plano, TX; her sister, Mary (Fred) Gattas, of Upland, CA; her sister-in-law, Clotilda Muller, of Cuba City, WI; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jacob, Rollie, and James, and her sisters, Betty and Bert. A Shirley M. Averkamp Memorial Fund has been established.
