Sister Elaine Ann Taylor, OP, died April 23, 2024, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her wake and funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at St. Dominic Villa.
Sister Elaine was born April 7, 1940, to Walter and Lucille (Lynch) Taylor in Kenton, Ohio. She graduated from Trinity High School, River Forest, Ill. She professed vows with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1961 and received the religious name of Sister Bartholomew. She received a BA in elementary education from Edgewood College, Madison, Wis.; an MA in fine arts from Illinois State University, Normal; and an MA in interdisciplinary arts education from Columbia College, Chicago.
Sr. Elaine's ministry was dedicated to teaching the arts. In Minnesota, she was a teacher at Incarnation School in Minneapolis and at Consolidated Catholic Schools and Bethlehem Academy, both in Faribault, where she also taught art. In Illinois, she taught art at St. Thomas Apostle School and St. Benedict High School, where she also taught religion, both in Chicago, and at Trinity High School, River Forest. Sr. Elaine also taught art at Annunciation School, Green Bay, Wis., and at St. Mary High School, Cheyenne, Wyo. In Florida, she ministered as drama teacher at Rosarian Academy, West Palm Beach, and as religion and drama teacher at Sacred Heart School, Pinellas Park, and Academy of the Holy Names School, Tampa. She founded and directed the St. Petersburg Petite Little Theatre.
Sister Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Timothy Taylor; and a sister, Nanette Cecilia Taylor. She is survived by two sisters, Jane Kantowicz and Mary Taylor; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Taylor; her close friend, Ann Parish; several nieces and nephews; and her Dominican Sisters.
