Sister Leonius Skaar, OP, died April 3, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Manor in Footville, Wisconsin. Her funeral services will be at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. and April 12 at 10:30 a.m.

Barbara was born April 25, 1937 to Lyder and Catherine (McCoy) Skaar in Minneapolis. There were three daughters. She is survived by her sister, Karen Kenny; her brother-in-law, Pat Marrin; nieces; nephews; many friends and her Dominican family.

After Sinsinawa Dominican formation, Barbara received the name Sister Leonius. Beginning in 1958 until her retirement in 2015, she was deeply committed to education. She received a degree in elementary education and later a master’s degree in special education. Through the years she brought her dedication, skill, kind ways and clear goals for all learners to everyone she encountered. She served in the following states: Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Florida. Leonius became known by many as the “teacher of teachers”. Thank you.
