Sr. Marie Amelia Cagnoni

Sister Marie Cagnoni, OP, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sister Bernardine. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Sinsinawa Motherhouse. Friends may call after 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Sinsinawa, where a remembering service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sister Marie was professed in 1944, and her first mission was St. Sabina School, Chicago, Illinois, where she taught first grade for three years. She then taught first grade at St. Mark School in Peoria for eleven years, before going to St. Augustine School in South St. Paul, Minnesota, for nine years. Her next mission was in the Primary Unit at St. Bernard School in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, before going to Blessed Sacrament School in Madison, Wisconsin where she taught for eleven years. She returned to Sinsinawa as Vicaress at the Motherhouse in 1986, and after three years she returned to Madison as a teacher aide at St. Dennis School for ten years. She returned to Sinsinawa in 2010, and in 2015 she joined the community at St. Dominic Villa. She is survived by a sister, Vivian, nieces and nephews, many friends and former students, and by her Dominican Sisters.
