Sister Mary Louis Russley, OP, died September 16, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, September 21 and 22, 2022.

Kathryn Charlene was born January 21, 1935, to Charles Louis and Mary Margaret (Moore) Russley in Cincinnati, Ohio. There were two girls. Sister Louis’s sister, Marilyn, died in 2004. She is survived by cousins, her beloved Dominican family and many friends.

Sister Louis set out to teach high school science for two years in River Forest, Illinois. She went to Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was an associate professor of science from 1964 until 1978. After five years as an administrator at Sinsinawa and a year as a pastoral associate in Apalachicola, Florida, she went to Loyola University School of Law, Chicago, receiving her doctorate in 1986. For the next 20 years, Sister Louis was an attorney and a tireless advocate in the court system in Chicago for a segment of society most in need.

The Beatitudes were her guide. In 1990, Sister Mary Louis Russley was recognized as one of Chicago’s “10 Most Beautiful Women”. The communion of saints now welcomes you.
