Sinsinawa, Wisconsin Sister Mary Rita Kendergan, OP, died at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville, Wisconsin, on October 31, 2021. She was born Mary Agnes to John and Agnes (Norton) Kendergan on September 30, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was their only child. Her father died of diabetes 18 days after her birth. Sister is survived by her beloved Dominican family. At the age of 19, she received the name Sister Mary Rita as a Sinsinawa Dominican. For 30 years, she was an intermediate grade school teacher in the following states: Illinois, Minnesota, New York, South Carolina, Wisconsin and South Dakota. She was a parish visitor at St. Mary in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Our Lady of Refuge in the Bronx. This kind, gentle and quiet woman added librarian to her resume. Sister Mary Rita, a caring woman, served in this capacity in California, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. Services at Sinsinawa will be held November 11-12, 2021.
