Hazel Green, Wisconsin Vergil J. Brant, 86, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the parish center before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Vergil was born on December 16, 1930, in Potosi, Wisconsin, the son of August J. and Elizabeth A. (Stohlmeyer) Brant. He married Teresa F. Hesseling on May 20, 1953, in Dickeyville. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1982. He married Jean Ballagh on December 16, 1983, in Kieler. She preceded him in death. Vergil worked at Farley Loetscher and the Dubuque Packing Company both in Dubuque, retiring from FDL Foods in Dubuque. After marrying Jean, he worked at the Red Top Supper Club for 31 years. Vergil was also a member of the Naval Reserves. Vergil enjoyed hunting deer, going out west to hunt antelope and mule deer, grouse hunting in northern Wisconsin and trap shooting in Potosi. He also enjoyed watching birds, bowling at Sunset Lanes and playing cards, especially euchre and solo. His Fergusen tractor was special to him. Vergil was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Holy Name Society, and the Catholic Knights for over 50 years. Survivors include his children, Kenneth Brant and Janice Brant, both of Kieler, and David (Mary Jo) Brant, of Cuba City; three sisters, Evelyn Kaiser, of Dubuque, Rita Sedbrook, of Glen Haven, and Jeanette (Robert) Brandt, of Hazel Green; two brothers, Joseph (Jackie) Brant, of Potosi, and James Brant, of Cuba City; nine grandchildren, Craig Roth, Niki (Fred Freiburger) Roth, Andy (Amelia) Roth, Amanda (Matthew) Diercks, Aaron (Courtney) Brant, Alex (Amanda) Brant, Alyssa Brant, Dallas Brant, and Dustin Brant; and ten great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Leonard; and seven brothers, Clifford, Harold, Donald, his twin Vince, Carl, Robert and Ronald.
