Vernon was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Sinsinawa for many years, served on the parish council and was an officer in the Holy Name Society. Vernon was a very nice man, always concerned about others, even the friends of his children. He enjoyed seeing his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. He made a point to do special things with all of his grandchildren, such as taking them to Stonefield Village or the Field of Dreams. Vernon enjoyed farming especially taking special care of his cows, bowling and all the beautiful scenery we are blessed with in this great country of ours. Thank you God. Survivors include his wife, Eileen; three daughters, Patricia (Ron) Rupp, of Tempe, Arizona, Mary Kay Daniel, of Madison, and Lori (Randy) Wirth, of Eau Claire; four sons, David (Sue) Placke and Joseph (Rita) Placke, both of Cuba City, Kenneth (Mary) Placke, of Hazel Green, and Alan Placke, of Cuba City; two sisters, Marie Kunkel, of Davenport, Iowa, and Doris Wolter, of Scottsdale, Arizona; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosaline Edwards; and two brothers-in-law, Kenny Kunkel and Merlyn Wolter. A Vernon J. Placke Memorial Fund has been established.
