Vern was born on May 15, 1920, in Paris Township, Grant County, Wisconsin, the son of John and Clara (Berning) Vosberg. He married Bernice Hoefer, on September 28, 1943 at Menominee Catholic B.V.M. Church. She preceded him in death on June 10, 1998. Vernon, prior to 1961, farmed his family’s original 80-acre farm near Louisburg, Wisconsin. He was instrumental in introducing the Dairy Herd Improvement Association to area farmers, which led to his establishing one of the first artificial insemination businesses in southwestern Wisconsin. His own herds of cattle frequently earned high test honors for milk production. In 1961, Vernon began selling real estate, working with Eldon Digman of Digman Realty, Dubuque. He continued to work as a realtor until his retirement in 2002. He was active in the Southwest Wisconsin Board of Realtors, serving as president, and winning several honors as realtor of the year. Vernon was a long-time member of the Jamestown Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving the community for more than 30 years. Vernon was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Kieler throughout his life, serving the parish as a council member, active in the Holy Name Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #775. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jane Jones, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Carolyn Pelton, of Verona, Wisconsin, and Kathy (Marty) Sullivan, of Dubuque, Iowa; one son, John (Diane) Vosberg, of Pine City, Minnesota; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Vosberg, of Dubuque, Iowa. He was also preceded in death by a son Marvin, who died on March 17, 1996; four sisters, Sister Estelle Vosberg, and Laura, Leona, and Roslyn Vosberg; and a brother, Gerald. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the staff of Luther Manor Nursing Home for their excellent, kind care of Vern, as well as Hospice of Dubuque.
