Vincent A. Wallenhorst

March 8, 1936 — May 28, 2008

Vince was born on March 8, 1936, the son of Clarence and Adeline (Schroeder) Wallenhorst. Vince married the former Jeanette Vosberg on October 14, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville, Wisconsin. Vince was born at home in Dickeyville, attended school at Holy Ghost Catholic School in Dickeyville, and graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque, Iowa. He was in the Army National Guard for six years. Vince was a farmer his entire life, and after “ retirement”, worked at Grant Equipment and the Casey Funeral Home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 765, Catholic Knights, a communion minister and usher at St. Rose. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; three daughters, Jane (Mark) Schreiber, of Dubuque, Judy (John) Tranel, of Cuba City, and Jean (Robin) Troxel, of Readstown, Wisconsin; two sons, Don “Rooster” (Traci Bush, fiance’) Wallenhorst, and Ron (Lori) Wallenhorst, both of Cuba City; an uncle, Henry (Dorothy) Schroeder, of East Dubuque, Illinois; an aunt, Alberta Ludwig, of Dubuque; seven sisters, Bernadette (Walter) Obershaw, Dolores (Robert) Klein, Janet Macaluso, and Patricia Valentine, all of Dickeyville, Imelda “Mellie” Reynolds, of Kieler, Doris Bussan and Mary Ann “Minnie” (Jack) Sabers, of Dubuque; a brother Clarence (Pat) Wallenhorst Jr., of Hazel Green; a sister-in-law, Gloria Wallenhorst, of Dickeyville; nineteen grandchildren, Lindsey, Travis, and Abby Schreiber; Jessie, Josh, and Jamie Tranel; Derek, Danielle, Katie, and Nathan Wallenhorst; Chad, Justin, Brittni, and Megan Bush; Jeremy, Emily, and Addy Wallenhorst; Tiffany and Samantha Troxel; and a great-grandchild, Chloe Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norbert, Merlin, and Richard; brothers-in-law Tony Macaluso, Mike Valentine, Francis Reynolds, and James Bussan; sisters-in-law Sue and Margaret Wallenhorst; and nieces and nephews, Ann Wallenhorst, David Obershaw, Bobby Klein, and Rick Wallenhorst. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital for their excellent care, especially Doctors Ott Jr., Schultheis, and Caylor. Thank you also to Father Flanagan and Deacon Dave McGhee. A Vince Wallenhorst Memorial has been established.
