Virgil was born on March 16, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Helbing) Jansen. He married Bernadette Kowalski on November 18, 1950, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City. Virgil was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the Jamestown Fire Department. He worked at the Kieler Garage for eighteen years before delivering oil for Perfection Oil Company for 43 years, which he acquired when his father passed. Virgil loved to golf, and was a longtime member of Cole Acres. He was an avid bowler, and also enjoyed playing horseshoes, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he rarely missed a sporting event. Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Dennis) Pearce, of Hazel Green, and Sue (Joe Hoppman) Jansen, of Kieler; a son, Doug (Kathy) Jansen, of Dubuque; three sisters, Jeanette (Milton) Gotzinger, of Hazel Green, Shirley (Joe) Burbach, of Dubuque, and Sharon (Tom) Runde, of Hazel Green; a brother, Kenneth (Sally) Jansen, of Dubuque; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette; his parents; a brother, Donald: and a nephew, Paul. The family wishes to thank Mercy CVU; Manor Care in Platteville, especially Gina and Carrie, who were godsends; and Hospice of Grant County. A Virgil A. Jansen Memorial Fund has been established.
