W. H. Wackershauser

March 29, 1920 — February 16, 2009

Bud was born on March 29, 1920, the first born of Henry and Lillian (Eggers) Wackershauser. He married Marian Johns on March 4, 1943 in Cuba City; she preceded him in death on April 25, 2003. Bud lived most of his life in Cuba City. In his early years he owned and operated his own trucking company, “Wackershauser Trucking”. He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works after many years of service. He then owned and operated the Corner Bar in Cuba City and The Branding Iron near Prairie du Chien. Bud was ambitious, could repair anything, and loved helping others whenever he had the opportunity. He was an avid hunter and fisherman having a second home in Bagley, Wisconsin “River of Lakes Resort”, and also a home in Glen Haven, Wisconsin. Bud had many friends, and loved entertaining his children and grandchildren on the Mississippi River. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Sam) Droessler, of Kieler, Wisconsin; a son, Dan (Pat) Wackershauser, of Cuba City; five grandchildren, Dan (Rachelle) Wackershauser, Jr., of Cuba City, Brad Droessler (friend Melissa Rupert), of Madison, Wisconsin, Heidi (Todd) McAuliffe, of Cuba City, Holly (Jason) Krieger, of Ithaca, New York, and Kari Wackershauser, of Las Vegas, Nevada; five great-grandchildren, Abby and Hailee Wackershauser, of Cuba City, and Christopher, Miranda and Raequon McAuliffe, of Cuba City; a special friend, Janet Beinborn, and her children, Mary Beinborn, Karen Gilkes, Patty Reuter, Larry Beinborn, Sherry Clement, Wayne Beinborn (his best friend and fishing/hunting companion), and Casey Beinborn; and three brothers, Embert (Arlene) of Glen Haven, Joe (Barb) of Prarie du Chien, and Louis (Gloria) of Beloit, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hiltrude Crapp, of Potosi, Wisconsin; and a brother, Virgil, of Prairie du Chien. A W.H. Wackershauser Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Grunwald, and Susan McMillan, NP of Prairie du Chien, and the many doctors and nurses at the ICU of St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison for their excellent and enduring care.
