W. Jean Donohoo

August 31, 1921 — September 14, 2010

W. Jean (Talbert) Donohoo, 89, of 500 S. Jefferson St., Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service. Jean was born on August 31, 1921, in Colfax, Indiana, the daughter of Omer and Mable (Smith) Talbert. She lived in Indianapolis during her high school days and graduated from Manual High School in 1940. Jean was employed at P.R. Mallory and Indiana Bell during World War II. She was also an active member of the YWCA and usherette of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Jean married Don Donohoo in 1945 in Paris, Texas. They moved to Cuba City in 1946 where they owned and operated Donohoo Furniture Company for 50 years. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for Donohoo Furniture for 26 years. Jean was a member of the Women’s Club, St. Rose Council of Catholic Women, and served as president of Cole Acres Ladies Organization. She also was historian for Cole Acres for many years. Jean served on the Grant County Deanery Committee. She also served as treasurer of the Cuba City Chamber of Commerce for 10 years and was twice recipient of the Outstanding Member Award. Jean was a lifetime member of the Chamber of Commerce. Jean was an active bowler for many years and enjoyed golfing. She was a member of the same Euchre Club for 50 years. Jean and Don enjoyed hosting parties over the years at their home. Jean served an excellent chop suey for family and friends. Jean’s hobbies included stringing beads, embroidering, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Don; two sons, Ray (Sandy) Donohoo, of Glendale, WI, and Jerry Donohoo, of Madison, WI; two daughters, Darlene (Dan) Wallace, of Mineral Point, WI, and Sharon Donohoo, of Shullsburg, WI; a special friend of the family, Mary Foley; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Mable Talbert; her stepmother, Bertha Talbert; four brothers, Bob Talbert, Elmer Talbert, Devon Talbert and George Talbert; one sister, Eva Massie; a grandson, Matthew Donohoo; a granddaughter, Stephanie Wallace; and an infant son, Sam Donohoo. Jean’s love and memories will always live in our hearts.
