Zeta E. Hoppenjan, 85, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish and Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home. Zeta was born on February 29, 1924, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Huldah (Heim) Grimm. She married Paul Hoppenjan on October 13, 1947, at St. Rose of Lima Church. He preceded her in death in 1991. Zeta graduated from Cuba City High School. She worked at the Cuba City Hospital for 31 years, many of those years in surgery. She was a skillful assistant to many different surgeons through the years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the St. Rose of Lima Council of Catholic Women, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #4, from which she just received her 60 year membership pin. Zeta will always be remembered for her care and compassion in care giving. She maintained a zest for life. Survivors include a son, George (JoAnn) Hoppenjan, of Kieler; a sister, Delores Hoppenjan, of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Troy (Awa) Hoppenjan, of Madison, Ross Hoppenjan, of Milwaukee, Nina (Dr. Ben) Heinzen, of Denver, Colorado, and Lindsey Hoppenjan, of Madison; and four sisters-in-law, Hazel Grimm, of Platteville, Lil Grimm and Vi Runde, both of Cuba City, and Kay Ulrich, of California. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Marland, Alvin, Lawrence and Raymond; a sister, Ione Mohlmann; two sisters-in-law, Helen Timmerman and Kay Grimm; and five brothers-in-law, Jerry Timmerman, Donald Runde, Myron Hoppenjan, Tony Ulrich, and Jesse Mohlmann. A Zeta E. Hoppenjan Memorial Fund has been established. A special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Mary, Stephanie and Ellen, and to Southwest Health Center Nursing Home for their care and compassion.
